What about Islam?

We have a lot about Islam lately. Many say Islam is a "next step" religion. Christianity was born of Judaism and Islam was born from Christianity. It makes sense, doesn't it? Let's take a look at a few misconceptions:

Islam worships Allah, and Allah is the same God that the Jews and Christians worship.

The Jews and Christians worship the same God, although Christians believe that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh, and was the Messiah that the Jews were looking for. Islam, on the other hand worships Allah. Although they claim Allah is the same being, it was not always that way. Archeological digs support the Jewish and Christian claims, but point to a different god called "Allah". Allah was the "man in the moon". This is also evidenced by the Muslim symbol the crescent moon! Below are a couple of links that explain it far better than I.

When Mohammad spoke of Jesus, was he telling the truth? Is what Islam teaches about Christ true?

Here are some of the things Mohammad said about Jesus:

"Regarding Sonship of Jesus: That is Jesus, son of Mary, in word of truth, concerning which they are doubting. It is not for God to take a son unto Him. Glory be to Him! When He decrees a thing, He but says to it " Be" , and it is. (Qur'an 19:34,35)

Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah" (Surah 4:157)

Muslims universally call Jesus a great prophet. Yet, the Bible and Jesus clearly states that Jesus was God in the flesh. Non-religious history accounts that a man called Christ was crucified for calling himself God. Jesus also said "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me."  Jesus also said "My Father and I are one." To this, the Jews became angry. They knew he was saying He and God are the same. When they challenged Him, He did not deny or retract the statement, or state they misunderstood. He accepted their statement as fact! Look through the old testament. Find a prophet that brought honor upon himself. Jesus constantly was saying "I". "I am the bread of life. I am the good shepherd. I am light of the world."  The list continues. If Jesus was just a prophet, he would not have made those statements. Jesus, unlike the prophets gave God level commands in the first person. He would say "Your sins are forgiven". He told Peter: "I will will build my church...I will give you keys of the kingdom of heaven." When Peter claimed Jesus to be the Christ, He replied "Blessed are you Simon Bar-jona, for flesh and blood has not revealed it to you by my Father in heaven." Once again we see Jesus admitting He is The Christ!

This brings us to Mohammad. If Mohammad and Islam is correct, then Jesus was a great prophet pointing the way to Mohammad, and not God in the flesh. Yet, no real prophet call himself God! This causes a bind that Islam cannot overcome (without attempting to change facts). If Jesus is true when He says He is God, then Islam is false. Yet, if Jesus is not true, then Islam must also be false, because Jesus could not be a prophet.

Islam also denies that Jesus was crucified. Supposedly Judas was crucified instead of Jesus and Jesus died at a ripe old age. That does not fit any other major prophet in history. Minor prophets came and went following a specified situation. But, if Jesus was a prophet, would he allow the misconception that he was crucified and allow a false religion to spring up in his name? Not if he was a real prophet! A real prophet would rise up to crush this false religion! If Islam is true, and Jesus did not die on the cross, Jesus could have stopped Christianity from beginning just by producing himself. If Islam is true, and Jesus did not die, then he hid himself away while a false religion was born, in his name. Once again, a real prophet would not have allowed that. Again, if Jesus was not a real prophet, then Islam is false!

So the bottom line is this. If Jesus was who He (and Christians say) said He is, then Islam is a false religion. If Jesus is not who Christians and He claimed He is, then Christianity and Islam both are false.

Islam is a peace-loving religion

Islam's history is the most violent of any religion. Islam began and grew in violence. Many Muslim leaders publicly say they are for peace, but show and do the opposite. Christianity often gets the blame for murdering thousands, but look at the histories listed below and see who is really the violent religion.

 Islam rejects slavery

It took a civil war and many lives to end slavery in the United States. Almost 150 years later, the effects of slavery is still being felt. But where did the slaves come from? The US did not have an army that was capable of operating in Africa to acquire slaves. Well, the slaves were captured by Muslims and sold to the American slave traders. Had it not been for Islam, the US slave issue may never have existed! Islam is still in the slave market. Muslims are still selling slaves in almost all Islamic countries.

What should the Christian response be?

We are to be "little Christs". We are to act as Christ acted. It is one thing to point out the truth, it is another to point a finger of condemnation at another. Muslims, Jews, Hindus and Christians are all sinners! Our religion does not save us. Everyone can only be saved by accepting Christ's blood atonement.  Christ said the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. The second commandment is to love others as you love yourself. Our response needs to be love. We should accept others as fellow sinners, but we should not accept their sinful behavior. We should pray for them, and minister to them. We need to meet their physical needs (within reason). We should model Christ, and to do that, we must know Him!
